PLANO (Oct. 23, 2024) – The Local Good Collective, a coalition of nonprofit and social enterprise organizations, was recently awarded a $96,300 Capacity Building Grant from the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) to sustainably expand operations at the Local Good Pantry and Local Good Center, to more effectively serve North Texans experiencing food insecurity.

The Local Good Pantry, a Richardson-based nonprofit pantry providing healthy ingredients and practical household items to anyone experiencing a need, and the Local Good Center, a Plano-based nonprofit addressing complex community challenges, including wellness, with holistic solutions, will share a food scale and a refrigerated box truck to aid in distribution services. The grant will also support expanded staff at the Local Good Pantry.

“Food insecurity can affect anyone – it doesn’t discriminate. In recent months, we have seen an influx of North Texas neighbors from all walks of life requiring additional food and wellness support, and our teams have stretched thin to meet the need,” said Local Good Executive Director Julissa Estrada. “The North Texas Food Bank is an incredible ally in the fight against food insecurity and we’re grateful for their continued support to help us serve the community well.”

Dignity is paramount to both Local Good Pantry and Local Good Center’s missions, with both organizations offering neighbors culturally and allergen-conscious food options, as well as access to additional resources, including English as a second language (ESL) classes, job readiness training and more. NTFB’s Capacity Building Grant will support both organizations’ continued expansion and community-first service.

“We simply could not do what we do in the fight against hunger without the support of feeding partners like the Local Good Collective,” said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. “Our grant program provides needed resources to our partner agencies allowing them to serve more people in their community. We are grateful for the commitment and dedication of the Local Good Pantry and Local Good Center to hunger relief in our community.”

Capacity Building Grants are used to expand a NTFB partner agency’s operations and expansion to increase the availability of nutritious meals to North Texans. Local Good Collective has been a proud partner of NTFB since 2020.
